Hi, my name is Soraya and I am based in the UK. I am fundraising to help my friend Baraa Abu Mutair who has found himself in the most horrific circumstances and is stuck in Gaza.
Baraa is 21 years old, and was studying pharmacy at university before the war. He has lost most of his family to IOF bombing, at the age of 21 this is something incomprehensible to many – but this is the reality for Baraa. He was originally from the North but has been displaced. 26 people from his family are now gone. His heart breaks a little more every day.
He has been injured 3 times so far, with shrapnel injuries throughout his body from various bombings. His foot was badly injured last year and has metal implanted into it to fix the damage.
This young man has suffered so much loss, and it is up to us to try and help him get his life back on track.
Baraa has sent me his ID, his geolocation and video messages to verify himself – something I wish he didn’t have to do but we live in strange times. He is who he says he is and he needs our help.
Baraa was brave enough to tell me his story, please read:
My name is Baraa Abu Mutair. I was 21 years old before October 7, 2023. I was a university student studying at the College of Pharmacy. I also worked with my family in a fabric and furnishings production and export company. I also had my own business on the Internet. We are a family consisting of my father and mother and 7 men, 5 of whom are married. My first brother, the doctor, is married to a pharmacist. My next brother is the director of the company and is married and has two children. My next brother also works in the company and has four children. My next brother also works in the company and is married and has a child. My next brother is an engineer and is married and has a child. Then me and my younger brother came. Our life was beautiful and we lived it in peace. A person who goes to work, and I was also a former bodybuilder, as my weight reached more than 104 kilograms, and I was a champion in heavy weights, where I took the gold medal in lifting a weight of 220 kilograms. This was all before the seventh of October, after the seventh of October. All our dreams and hopes were destroyed. And our business, my university was destroyed, my favorite club was destroyed, my workplace was destroyed, all the exhibitions and all the factories were destroyed, and the company’s headquarters was completely destroyed. This means that we have returned to the starting point and we do not have any cash or even money in the bank because all our money was in the form of goods and they have been destroyed. It was burned completely, and we were bombed more than 5 times. I was injured twice in my feet. Platinum was placed on me twice and in my hand as well. We were displaced from a palace by the occupation. We were displaced from Gaza more than once, from the north to the south. But now we live separated, not united. We have been separated. Because of the occupation, we are now suffering from very difficult conditions due to a lack of money, water, food, drink, clothing, and sanitary and cleaning supplies. I have been exposed to many diseases because of the climate in which I live. I have been afflicted with skin diseases over and over again, and I also suffered from sunstroke due to high temperatures, and my tent was also attacked by snakes. And also the scorpions. As for my professional life, I work in all kinds of jobs in order to get a living. I work in lifting and arranging bags of flour, sugar, and goods. I also work in batteries. I also work in cleaning the streets and work on laying out all this for only $10 a day. I don’t want to do more. Of words, because words will not explain the details of what we are living through, because our lives are like a horror movie. As for my wish in conclusion, I wish to emigrate from this country because all my dreams and ambitions, all my friends, and most of my family were destroyed because of this damned war. I wish to travel to his country and for it to contain me and make me one of its members. I wish to return to my studies, to my university, to my work, and to the club. I wish to travel as soon as possible because my life is in danger every day, every hour, every minute and every second.
